Historically, men and shaving have coexisted for millenia. We don’t exactly know when men started removing their facial hair, but there is evidence that the habit may have been born during the Stone Age! Men shaved for social, religious and aesthetic reasons and often according to their status. The ancient Greeks actually treasured their beards, but Alexander the Great imposed shaving so that enemies couldn’t snatch them from the face in battle. The demands of fashion of different eras have given various forms and styles to male facial landscapes. At DON Barber & Groom, however, we believe that nothing is more wonderful than the smooth, freshly shaved skin that the traditional shaving process offers.
This valuable ritual was overlooked for a few decades, but never completely forgotten. The imperative needs of hurried everyday life and the necessity to decompress from stress brought the traditional shave back to the life of contemporary man.
